the person was obviously making the dog feel threatened because he was a in his territory. Dogs are what they are, loving but protective, people must accept a dogs character an state of mind. If you dnt then you will never truly understand them. My dogs are finicky around other people when iam around, but aggressive towards others if iam not around. Thats the perfect way they should act, what comes natural. this chow doesnt give chows a bad name just reminds ppl that theres two sides to dogs. |

Not sure why all the "dislikes." There is another side to dogs. I've owned a chow for almost 12 years. She's the most loving of all my dogs; however, she's very protective. Once, this shady looking man rang my doorbell. She must have sensed something. All three of my dogs raced toward the front of my house, but my chow chow is the only one who bared her teeth. Another time, this guy was teasing my huskey, and my chow chow charged at this guy and bared her teeth. |

Its chows like this that give the breed a bad rep. Its all on the owner, not the dog. I have been and raised chows since the day i was born, and mine where never aggressive. If they were to show their teeth, it was out of protection, thats if they didnt like something about the person. I grew up in a pet shop with them running loose inside and they never attacked someone. People need to stop giving Chows a bad name and just grow up. |

You must teach your dog to socialize... that sense of protection is wrong... look his fur need to be brushed and nobody dares to brush him because the dog is too agresive... actually chow chow are very docile but owners become that dog in neurotic |

I have a chow chow and there are 5 chow chows in my family. They are brilliant dogs. They have a bad reputation, but they aren't aggressive they are protective. They don't turn out like the dog in the video unless they weren't socialized when they were young and weren't trained properly!!!!! Chow Chows are BORN, RAISED AND BRED TO BE GUARD DOGS. chow chows are protective as long as they were socialized as a puppy and are trained well they will turn out to be the BEST DOG you will ever have!! |

@wrx4life44 I completely agree with you,I have had Chows my entire adult life and have never had one bad experience with any of them...they are extremely loyal and do not show affection in the way,say a Golden Retreiver would,HOWEVER...they too have been unfairly demonized in the press, just like the Pit Bull. If either one of these breeds of dog do anything good, you NEVER hear about it,just the bad stuff...It is always the owner, not the breed of dog. |

@akwesasne6pride if this video changed your mind im sorry chows are protective but this person was tormenting the dog and who knows what happened to it in the past. Ive had chows my whole life and none have attacked anyone they are amazing dogs and wonderful companions i wish you would change your mind back to chows if you have any questions feel free to ask |

To all the well meaning but idiotic "dog lovers" who say "it depends on how a dog is raised." or "it's not the dog, it's the owner", please stop.
You are doing a disservice to all the wonderful breeds that need the proper care. Not acknowledging that there are breed characteristics and some should only be in experienced capable handlers, leads to this. I own and love Chows and they should NOT be taken for granted. Couple with this clown owner and you have worse than a loaded gun. |

The decline in popularity of this breed has improved breeding. The greedy profiteer breeders are gone; the legacy breeders are still around. Chows are a breed apart. protective for sure. Born GUARD DOGS. The animal above used in the capacity portrayed is fulfilling it's inherent breeding. Personally I would only buy a Chow that is social and can be socialized as a puppy. |

they come from a country where people eat dogs. at ancient times, chows were led to battlefields. that's why they're so 'protective'... tell you what: never trust a chow. an unfortunate friend of mine happened to trust her boyfriend's chow. they became 'good' friends. after six mohts of friendship you could almost call them brows! result: one day the dog woke up in a moody way and she ended up with more then 50 stitches all over her body. |

Chows are my fav and are very cute but those fuckers do not play. my grandmother has owned several of them, one was a cat killer and would actually stalk and kill about 1 cat per week, usually cats that would wonder into my grandma's home. He was vicious but a sweetheart with the members of the family. very protective and territorial. The largest one she over owned would climb a latter to the roof of her 2 story home and stand tall and proud just watch over the street. |

@Bedfordoak They are the best protectors too. When I was a kid, my chows would let me know that they are bigger and not to pull on them, but still be very gentle with me. When I was babysat, they would sleep at the top of the stairs and wouldn't let my babysitter in the room once I had gone to bed. They are very loving and amazing dogs, and if you take proper care of them they will do the same for you. |

i agree, if your quite unmistakably the alpha of the home, they are the best dogs ever!! but will take a mile if given an inch!!, i have a red female, and she is a fab dog, so clever!! and no-one can come to our door with out her telling them they're not welcome! ... but is truly all bark and no bite lol |

@Bedfordoak Not every chow is a very protective dog. I had a chow and it was a "cute cuddly teddy bear" because we treated it that. Depending on how you treat it as a puppy it will think either it has to be mean and vicious to get its way, or you could treat them another way and show them that being sweet is all there is to it. |
